After capturing Blythe and Peter’s proposal, I was so excited when they booked their Upstate New York engagement photos with me. We chose The Hyde Collection Museum in Glen Falls, NY for the location… and the results were STUNNING!

Styling the New York Engagement Photos

One of my favorite parts of every engagement session is the preparation. This is why I offer complete styling to my couples. Like your wedding day, this session is a once-in-a-lifetime experience—and the perfect excuse for a new outfit (or two)!

Peter and Blythe had lots of time between booking and their session date, so I helped them plan out all of the little details to create the perfect aesthetic. Blythe wanted modern engagement photos that felt classic. They decided on an ivory color scheme with timeless silhouettes. It created a monochromatic look that will age beautifully!

Blythe’s hat was also the perfect statement piece. Hand-painted, the hat was a custom piece from artist, Gretchen Tisch. Her art studio, Feathered Antler, is a local gem in Saratoga Springs for custom art and murals. Gretchen also paints in-the-moment artwork for couples on their wedding day.

Before the Engagement Photo Session

Capturing this session with Blythe and Peter was special. When couples book an engagement session with me, it will usually be my first time getting to know the future bride and groom. But for these two, I got to meet them when Peter popped the question!

Last summer, Peter reached out about booking a session to document their engagement. (Guys, take notes!) Blythe dressed up for what she thought was the couple’s photoshoot at The Gardens at Yaddo. Peter got down on one knee at the rose garden entrance… and I got to capture this beautiful proposal!

And of course… she said yes! It felt extra sweet to document this moment of bliss for these two. And I knew they would rock their engagement session.

Telling a Story

Being your photographer isn’t just about delivering pretty pictures. I want your photos to document this season of your life. This session is all about creating a visual narrative. Posed photos can look great, but it’s the natural interactions that tell your love story.

This is why I take the time to get to know each of my couples. Some couples may wonder why I send questionnaires or schedule Zoom calls. I hope to discover all the little things that make you who you are as a couple. Because I know how important it is to preserve your legacy! And I want your images to capture the honesty and excitement of this season.

For Blythe and Peter, getting to know them felt effortless, and it was easy to pick up on their energy. They are so in love, and it radiates on camera. They treated the session like a date night (which I love when couples do!). And I documented the story of lovers strolling through the galleries.

Inside the Hyde, we embraced the Renaissance-style architecture. You could feel the intimacy of the historic house with the contrast of a modern art gallery. We had endless creative freedom surrounded by art, textiles, and French furniture. Works by artists like Botticelli, van Gogh, and Picasso helped us create our own art.

The grounds were as stunning on the outside as they were on the inside of the museum. There’s a small butterfly garden in the back, but we took advantage of the empty courtyard at the entrance. The mock orange flowers were in full bloom and were *chefs kiss* with their color scheme.

Talk about a dream session! This location had been on my bucket list, and it didn’t disappoint. Blythe and Peter’s engagement photos embrace the classic feeling of Upstate New York—ones that won’t feel dated or too trendy when they look back on them years from now. I can’t wait to capture them saying “I do” next summer at their Roxbury Barn and Estate wedding in the Catskills.

To Blythe & Peter—Thank you for trusting me to capture your love story. I can’t wait for your wedding day. In the meantime, soak up all the fun of being engaged!
