There’s no shortage of spectacular wedding venues in New York, but when choosing a venue for their day, Katelyn and Nick knew they wanted to say “I do” overlooking Lake George. While some wedding stories end up being about the style, these two made the day about being totally present—with each other and with their family and friends.

New York Summer Wedding on Lake George

I first met Katelyn and Nick for their engagement session (and rooftop margs) in downtown Saratoga Springs. I could tell right away that these two were more than just a couple—they were best friends.

Katie and Nick set the stage for their wedding day with a hand-painted stationery suite. It featured a watercolor print of their Lake George wedding venue. The colors and elegant font was a perfect match with their wedding aesthetic.

On the day of the wedding, the families spent the morning getting ready at a lakeside property owned by Katie’s grandmother. Every corner had a personal touch of magic. Capturing this part of the day felt easy, like getting dolled up with friends at home.

The bride was a vision in her tea-length dress. It was a total Elizabeth James Parent Trap moment—absolute perfection!

A Vintage-Inspired First-Look

Katie blended personal with vintage wearing blue heels topped with rhinestone-studded bows. She wore her hair in loose curls pulled back to see her pearl drop earrings peeking through.

Once everyone was ready, the bride and groom headed out for a sweet and intimate first look. And after planning a Lake George wedding, it only made sense for Katie and Nick to meet each other at the dock.

Some grooms get teary-eyed and emotional when they see their brides for the first time. Some try hard to keep it together, while others feel awestruck. Then there are grooms like Nick who become overwhelmed with joy at the sight of their bride for the first time.

This dockside moment as Nick turns to look at Katie is one of my favorites from the day. The the veil was totally having its moment there in the wind.

Following the first look, we got a few family photos. You could see the bond between each family and how Katie and Nick blended that love into one. I loved that their day was all about them and spending time with their people.

We had time before the ceremony (thank you, first look!!) to slip away and get some stunning photos of the couple with the family’s ’56 Chevy Nomad. Katie looked like she’d stepped off an old Hollywood red carpet. But the classic Chevy really sealed the deal.

Afterward, we boarded the Adirondac. A cruise boat with Lake George Waterfront Cruises, it has gorgeous 360 views of the lake. The wooden, multi-deck boat was the perfect wedding venue for a simple and sweet ceremony.

Lake George Wedding Reception

The bride and groom’s closest loved ones enjoyed an intimate dinner under the atrium ceiling. The reception space was bright and airy, filled white linens and wooden accents. Eucalyptus, daisies, and baby’s breath also topped the dining tables.

Following a waterfront toast, the newlyweds turned The Adriondac into a party boat. Katie changed into her white sneakers and wasted no time getting to the dance floor with her guests. Her smile lit up every corner, and dancing was her expression of joy. When Katie and Nick took a break from the dance floor, we went out to the deck for a few more photos before the day was over.

If there’s a break in the dining or dancing, I grab my couples to step away for a quick 5-10 minutes. I encourage them to enjoy a final moment to take it all in before the day is over.

A few minutes away from the reception also brings diversity in the photos. Sometimes I’ll find a rooftop or a hotel elevator for a romantic kiss. Or we’ll step outside, right when the sky has that perfect glow, to capture the newlyweds fully immersed in the excitement from the day. But most importantly, I look for honest moments. So if my couples are breaking it down on the dance floor all night long, you won’t find me cramping their style.

Back on the Adirondac, drinks were flowing. During the reception, guests took photos with polaroid cameras for keepsake memories. Everyone continued dancing until the boat reached the Lake George dock. Katie and Nick’s wedding day ended with a bubble-filled exit. It was the perfect, final touch to celebrate this fun couple!

There was so much love and joy on Katie and Nick’s Lake George wedding day! It was evident that their day was all about celebrating the two becoming one.
